ABOUT WE Inspire

Gender inequality continues to hinder women’s economic potential across the Lower Mekong Subregion. Limited access to finance, business and digital skills, entrenched gender norms, and domestic responsibilities restrict opportunities for women, while climate change further threatens their livelihoods.

Empowering these women is key to breaking cycles of poverty, advancing gender equality, and strengthening the economy.

Kenan Foundation Asia addresses these challenges through its WE Inspire program, launched with the Mekong–U.S. Partnership (MUSP) in 2021 and later expanded through AVPN's Asia Gender Equality Fund.

The program delivers training workshops, mentoring and consultations, information sessions, and seed grants—combining entrepreneurial support, financial literacy, health literacy, and affordable health solutions to enable low-income women to achieve financial security and well-being.

Building on the success, Phase II (Jul 2023-Jun 2026) is deepening impact in Chiang Rai, Thailand, with the Asia Gender Equality Fund.

Through a Training of Trainers model, Kenan is working with the Chiang Khong Women’s Council and 10 other local organizations to empower 500 rural women and their supporters. The Fund also supports strengthening Kenan’s gender mainstreaming capacity and mobilizing stakeholders to channel greater investment toward rural women entrepreneurs.

Other Kenan Work on Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality

Gender inequality continues to hinder women’s economic potential across the Lower Mekong Subregion. Limited access to finance, business and digital skills, entrenched gender norms, and domestic responsibilities restrict opportunities for women, while climate change further threatens their livelihoods.
Through entrepreneurship training, financial literacy programs, and community engagement initiatives, we help women achieve economic independence, amplify their voices, and become leaders of change. By breaking down barriers and fostering equal opportunities, Kenan drives progress toward a more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous society — where women are recognized not only as beneficiaries but as key drivers of sustainable development.
